Chelsea are through to the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup following a dominant 2-0 victory over Fluminense on Tuesday night, July 8.

Chelsea reached the 2025 Club World Cup final thanks to the match-winning performance of the club’s recent signing, Joao Pedro.

Pedro, who joined the Blues just last week from Brighton in a deal worth around £60 million, scored in both halves to seal Chelsea’s place in Sunday’s final, where they will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid.

The 2-0 win over Fluminense not only confirmed Chelsea’s second major final in under a month, after clinching the UEFA Conference League title, but also significantly boosted the club’s finances.

According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, “Chelsea have now earned a fee close to £80m thanks to their FIFA Club World Cup performances, qualifying for the final.”

“Excellent job by Enzo Maresca with UCL return, Conference League trophy and also perfect Club World Cup so far,” Romano shared in a post on 𝕏.

Head coach Enzo Maresca, speaking to DAZN after the match, shared his excitement about the team’s progress and the prospect of facing European heavyweights in the final.

“I like both teams, they played very good football,” Maresca said. “Luis Enrique had two seasons there, Xabi has just arrived but we can see how he wants to play. We will play a strong team, but we are proud to be already there.”

Veteran Fluminense defender and former Chelsea captain Thiago Silva also weighed in after the match.

Though disappointed with the result, Silva backed his former club to lift the trophy, unless they come up against another side close to his heart.

“I now hope Chelsea can do well in the final, regardless of who they face,” Silva told Globo. “If it is Paris Saint-Germain, my heart will be divided. If it is Real Madrid, I’m definitely rooting for Chelsea.

“Now it’s time to lift our heads, wish Joao Pedro luck, and move on.”

Chelsea’s opponents in the final will be decided when PSG face Real Madrid in the second semi-final clash tonight, July 9.
