NPFL AGM, Fixture Draws Get Date, Rivers United Sign Obinna Akuchie

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has confirmed that its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the 2025-2026 season will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025.
During the AGM, the NPFL will also carry out the fixture draws for the new campaign. The league board is expected to announce the exact venue for the AGM in the coming days.
Note that the meeting will mark the formal countdown to another thrilling season of Nigerian top-flight football.
The 2025-2026 NPFL season is scheduled to kick off on Friday, August 22, and will run until May 2026, according to the official announcement by the league body.
Last season saw a historic shift in power as Remo Stars, based in Ikenne, clinched their first-ever NPFL title, breaking the dominance of more established sides.
Meanwhile, Rivers United are not slowing down in their quest to strengthen their squad ahead of a busy season that includes both NPFL and CAF Champions League campaigns.
The Port Harcourt-based side has secured the services of goalkeeper Obinna Akuchie, who joins from newly promoted Kun Khalifat FC.
Akuchie played a vital role in Kun Khalifat’s remarkable rise to the top tier and will now bring his shot-stopping abilities to Rivers United.
Akuchie also previously featured for the now-defunct Vandrezzer FC in Uyo, and his wealth of experience is expected to add depth and competition to Rivers United.
The move follows the club’s earlier signing of John Noble, the former Enyimba and Super Eagles goalie.
