EPL: Liverpool’s Frimpong Ruled Out With Hamstring Injury
Jeremie Frimpong

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that defender Jeremie Frimpong will be sidelined for several weeks after picking up a hamstring injury during the Reds’ opening Premier League fixture.

Naija News reports that Frimpong, who joined Liverpool this summer from Bayer Leverkusen in a £29.5 million deal as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, sustained the injury during the 4-2 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield last Friday.

The 23-year-old full-back limped off after an hour of play, cutting short his home league debut.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Newcastle United on Monday, Slot defended the decision to substitute Frimpong.

“The medical team were completely right about Jeremie to tell me to take him off because he is out until the end of the international break (September 10), and that happened during the game,” the Dutch manager explained.

Slot also addressed criticism of the decision: “I think I got criticised for taking him off, didn’t I? It had nothing to do with how he played but we felt he had an issue with his hamstring and by we, I mean the medical staff. It was a good call to take him off, otherwise he would have been out for longer. We expect to have him back after the international break.”

Meanwhile, there is a new development for the Reds as right-back Conor Bradley resumed training on Thursday after recovering from injury, providing Slot with cover during Frimpong’s absence.

The build-up to Monday’s game at St. James’ Park has been overshadowed by speculation over Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak.

Reports suggest Newcastle have slapped a £150m price tag on the unsettled 25-year-old Sweden international, a figure that would represent a British record transfer fee.
