Rivers Sole Administrator In Attendance As Shettima Leads Governors In NEC Meeting

The Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, on Thursday chaired the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting was attended by the Governors of various states, led by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazak.
Naija News reports that the Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd), who was sworn into office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in March 2025, was also in attendance.
The Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was also present at the meeting.
Other attendees are governors of Zamfara, Jigawa, Lagos, Anambra, Gombe, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue, and Ondo states.
The National Economic Council, which the Vice President chairs, has the constitutional duty of advising the President on the nation’s economic affairs, particularly issues relating to the coordination of economic planning, allocation of revenue, and implementation of national economic policies.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has approved an upward review of the fees for the Nigerian international passport, effective September 1, 2024.
This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the spokesman of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), A. S. Akinlabi.
According to the Service, the new rates will only apply to passport applications submitted within Nigeria.
He explained that the increment was aimed at safeguarding the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, which will take effect on September 1, 2025.
