Ederson Leaves Manchester City For Fenerbahçe

Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson has completed a permanent move from Manchester City to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, bringing an end to a glittering eight-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.
Ederson’s move to Fenerbahçe is subject to international clearance, with the player already in Istanbul to finalise the paperwork, according to a statement from Manchester City earlier today, September 2.
In the statement, City described Ederson, 31, as “one of the most successful players in the Club’s history.”
Since arriving from Benfica in 2017, Ederson made 372 appearances, keeping 122 Premier League clean sheets, the most by any goalkeeper in City’s history.
During his time in Manchester, Ederson lifted 18 major trophies, including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, three Community Shields, and the club’s first-ever Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs.
His six league crowns make him the most decorated goalkeeper in Premier League history, matching Liverpool legend Bruce Grobbelaar’s tally of top-flight titles.
Reflecting on his departure, Ederson said, “I leave Manchester City incredibly proud of what we have achieved together, and I am honoured to have worn the shirt so many times. Playing for City has been the most special time of my life and I will always be a fan of this special club. Once a Blue, always a Blue.”
Manchester City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, praised Ederson’s legacy, saying, “The fact no goalkeeper has ever won more Premier League titles says everything you need to know about his quality and consistency. He has truly cemented his place in the history of Manchester City.”
Note that Ederson has won three Premier League Golden Gloves during his time in England. He is known for revolutionising the role of a modern goalkeeper with his pinpoint passing, calmness under pressure, and commanding presence.
