Both R and Python are important tools used by the developer community for machine learning & data science implementations. Research (IEEE) says that Python leads the pack in terms of its usability and popularity index of data science tools & technologies, while R stays at the sixth place. However, the usage of the Python and R is a little different – the language ‘R’ is majorly referred for statistical solutions and data science problems and hence, the design of the framework and the inbuilt functions are implemented accordingly. Python, on the other hand, is a more generalized language which can be used in statistical as well as other ML problems; and therefore, has a more readable syntax and inbuilt references.
